What is it all about?
The Cyclic Nucleotide Project offers cylic nucleotide-related data for the main binding proteins of cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP.
At times where only PKA and PKG and one or two phosphodiesterases were known, things appeared quite easy: One could choose between dibutyryl or 8-bromo modified cAMP or cGMP.
However, with the discovery of many more active elements of the cyclic nucleotide signal transduction system, such as kinase isozymes, CNG channels, EPAC and PDEs, the development of much more selective and sophisticated analogues discriminating between the different binding partners has been pushed forward as well.
Nowadays, even for experts in the field it is difficult to pick out a suitable cAMP or cGMP analogue from meanwhile several hundred structures for a specific task, or to interpret corresponding data from other labs.
The Cyclic Nucleotide Project has collected data for many cyclic nucleotide analogues with respect to all important receptor proteins and offers a convenient search tool. In addition, many references are provided.
